We have people helping here, that are on the New Deal Scheme. Basically the scheme is a compulsory work placement for people that have been unemployed for awhile. Our placements are sent to us through Erewash CVS, not directly from the job centre.

The placement is for 13 weeks, 30 hours per week. The scheme helps people get back into a routine, provides them with an opportunity to learn new skills, builds up their confidence and supply them with up to date references.

The role of our New Dealers is to do the daily housekeeping, support the superviser during the open studio sessions by meeting and greeting, making drinks for customers, sitting with and helping people with projects and preparing for workshops

As well as doing 6 hours per week job search which involves them writing an up to date CV, sending off speculative letters and applying for work.

We really bring out the crafty side of some of our placements, so much so they stay on as volunteers!
